Anfi Turmoil Update

A very important and relevant update, I feel everyone involved should be aware of the continual changes of both senior and middle management at Anfi.
Since I have been involved with the Tauro problem:

Calvin Lucock Managing Director           Sacked
Neil Cuniliffe Head of Freehold Sales     Sacked
Tony Vanderputte                                 Resigned
John Mcdonald (Calvin’s replacement)   Sacked
Darren Davies Head of Sales                 Sacked
Yvonne James                                      Resigned
Mark Cousins                                       Sacked

This is a huge amount of changes to key personnel in a small period of time, these are the people who promised us all rental guarantees, mortgage guarantees and low or in some cases no maintenance on the properties at Tauro!

This company is in disarray and is like a sinking ship, everyone is trying to get off! There are obviously huge problems at Anfi and nobody capable of sorting them out!

I have spoken to some of these people, who only a few months ago were telling me that the Ruby Club at Tauro was going ahead! Now that they are no longer with the company they have a very different opinion, it seems that everyone at Anfi knows about the problems but cannot say anything for fear of their jobs!

Update: Anfi Embargo

Sorry I haven't updated you on the situation for a long time. The court case has taken longer than we thought, we have had some positive news now though, Anfi have been served with legal papers regarding civil action.

ANFI EMBARGO

These papers state they must pay the defendants within TWO days or have a full embargo placed upon them.
The members of our group of whom are listed here are option letter clients only, the remainders like myself have a reservation agreement and are still awaiting the courts decision as to whether it will be a criminal or civil case.
This is obviously fantastic news for us, as the judge has acted so quickly and we have a stronger case with a reservation agreement.

If this has happened to you and you would like some help,

The Office Of Fair Trading

Here is a copy of a letter I have sent to The Office Of Fair Trading, this documents the history of ongoing issues with regards to this situation.

VIEW LETTER

As you can see from the letter the situation is not as Anfi would lead you to believe.

Anfi timeshare disaster

Having been a extremely happy member of Anfi del Mar timeshare resort Gran Canaria for the past 10 years, having enjoyed many fantastic holidays, having met lots of new friends it is with regret that I feel the need to express my complete dissatisfaction with the Anfi experience. It has been and still is a complete nightmare for which the catalyst was the new development at Anfi Tauro. It looked and was sold as the next step in the Anfi dream, how wrong can you be?

In May 2007 arrival at Anfi was heaven sent, 4 children, 1 au pair, 1 penthouse 2 weeks of blissful sunshine what more could a tired mum and dad wish for? Maybe a free breakfast and ride around the fabulous new resort at Tauro!

Victoria and I went along to our "free" breakfast with the intention of keeping our cheque book firmly closed! It was not until the introduction of freehold into the pitch that my interest was aroused. In short cutting through many sales promises (few of which even possible) we were very keen to exchange our current timeshare as deposit against a freehold property. All sounds good so far! To do this we needed to have an option letter and to gain an option letter you needed to have £50,000 worth of timeshare. We entered into an agreement to convert our 1 week at Gran Anfi into 2 weeks at Anfi Tauro and followed up with a purchase of 2 more weeks to qualify for this option letter! We have a disabled son (Keron) who was benefiting greatly from the hot climate and the lovely almost hydro-therapy warm water, so I convinced Victoria that if we were to purchase 2 more weeks we would be able to enjoy many "physio" holidays effectively for free as it was all being discounted from the freehold we were keen to purchase.

When we left at the end of May we had 6 weeks timeshare at Anfi Tauro and a another trip planned for July with our new found well of points! (points are one of the cleverly designed sales tools to convince you that Tauro is a bargain)

On arrival we were keen to solidify our huge investment into a freehold property, we had decided before arrival that we would actually like to purchase 2 apartments 1 to retain for the family and 1 to rent out as an investment unfortunately we needed to have 2 option letters, so we had to purchase 2 more weeks. I assured Victoria this would not be a problem as it was all going to be deposit!

We now had 8 weeks timeshare 2 option letters and were in a postion to purchase our dream, we paid huge deposits, picked our apartments, signed our reservation agreements and thoroughly committed ourselves to the Tauro project. We were told the purchase agreement would be ready in 6 weeks so all we had to do was go home pay some more money and return at the end of august beginning of September to finalise the deal. We returned as promised and this was the start of problems although we were gullible enough with our trust in Anfi to not see it for what it was! They had no agreements ready and basically fobbed us off with lies and promises of future contracts. We returned in November to watch the start of the project only to be told the contracts were not ready and the work was delayed until January!

In December 2007 having heard nothing from Anfi and the next installment due Victoria and I decided to withdraw from the agreement as we felt they had serious problems that they were not telling us about, we rang and requested return of our money. I had a phone call from an Anfi rep informing me there were some problems with the development, this was a cue for me to get on a plane and go and try to recover our money.

I arranged a meeting with head of contracts Giuseppe Biondo and he explained that there was a short delay with the license for T.6.2 ( Ruby Club) and could I wait 6 months for the start of the project, I pointed out that 6 months could stretch to any amount of time and that I was unprepared to take the risk. I was promised and assured many things which would no doubt embarrass Anfi now as none have come to pass. The conclusion to this meeting was reasonably good Mr Biondo agreed to repay our deposits as they were in breach of contract and was going to speak to the general manager about the refund of the extra timeshare we had bought as there was no project to use it as deposit against.
Our deposit was repaid reasonably quickly which was a positive, unfortunately Anfi decided that the timeshare was non-refundable and that we had got we had we paid for! I travelled out to Gran Canaria for a meeting with Mr Biondo in January to try to resolve this with them. I had many meetings, some cancelled some they did not turn up for but I made it clear that I was not leaving the island until I had a resolution!

I eventually through David Sanchez managed to arrange a meeting with Luiz Martinez the general manager, he was very concerned I was unhappy and after offering me many deals and concluded it was probably best if they refunded all my money with the conditions that I inform no-one of our deal ( other T.62 purchasers) and that I wait 3-5 weeks for them to re-sell my weeks, this seemed slightly odd but I was so pleased to have the promise of our money back from the Anfi genereral manager that evening I phoned Victoria to say I was successful and would be on the next plane home.

I was obviously naive but even up until this point I did not believe Anfi would abuse my trust in them.
6 weeks passed and the promised call from Mr Sanchez never arrived so I tried to contact him to see when the money would be arriving only to find he would not take my calls. It was at this point I realised that Anfi just did not care and anything they could say to take the problem out of their office was a good resolution for them! I decided that now was the time for legal action.
